We are super excited to have 2 games coming to the Atari VCS this month!
Cymatically Muffed will release September 22nd, and Simple Light Cycles will release September 27th :) Get ready to party as both games support crazy couch multiplayer with up to 16 players on a single VCS!
Cymatically Muffed is a fast-paced top-down shooter with a couch co-op campaign for up to 4 players and couch multiplayer games for 2-16 players!
Watch the full trailer.
Features
- 9 PvP Battle Modes with 15 maps
- 25 Co-Op campaign levels and 5 boss battles
- 4 endless survival levels
- Level Editor and community Workshop for sharing
- Drop In/Drop Out gameplay for fewer interruptions
- Holiday Theming to make parties more festive
What’s with the weird name? Cymatics is how sound impacts matter, and the big headphones are Muffs, so Cymatically Muffed is a play on how listening to music can help you perform better. The headphones all players wear bump music that gives you a boost to strength and speed, greatly increasing your slaying power, provided you can keep them stocked with batteries (a constant issue when we were young).
Simple Light Cycles is a fast-paced hyper responsive couch multiplayer action game for 2-16 players!
Watch the full trailer.
Features
- Fast-Paced Action Matches
- Hyper Responsive Controls
- Simple Gameplay
- Custom Game Options
- 16 Player Controller Support
16 players?
We're excited about the VCS because other consoles have lower player limits (Xbox caps at 8 controllers), but the VCS is like a hybrid console/PC so we can max out the players for crazy fun parties! You will need a USB Hub to hit the max player count, but most controllers work with our games.
Can confirm all of these work on our VCS builds:
These are the controllers we've specifically tested for, but most gamepads should work. The Atari VCS Classic Joystick works with Simple Light Cycles but doesn't have enough buttons for good gameplay in Cymatically Muffed (it does work, but the limited button scheme makes for unreal difficulty).
We put together a guide for connecting various controllers (this is geared towards PC but the instructions are the same for the VCS): https://kelsam.net/xmqzfv
If you're interested in maxing out player counts on the VCS, you'll probably need to check out the section on USB Port Limits.
